Here’s a chance to get into the head of one of the country’s most celebrated wedding photographers. The Joe Photo/Show & Tell DVD consists of two live weddings, an engagement session and two slide shows. If you’re in the business, you’ll find the information on this DVD priceless. Thanks to video crews who captured Joe capturing the weddings, you get to see him in action and see what the scenes look like before he works his magic. Joe’s voiceover covers the obvious and the subtle points of his photography, and he never repeats himself anywhere on the DVD. He covers his complete workflow process, as well as his unique system of image editing, which seems to be quite painless when compared to other’s systems. You get to see and hear him work with his couples as he’s shooting. The voiceover, in one segment, talks in detail about his system of bounce flash, which he uses quite frequently, even though it is rarely noticeable in the final images. You can see the confidence-building effect he has on his couples as he constantly shows them the captured images on the camera’s LCD screen, while reinforcing to them how good they look. As he’s doing formals, he talks about the effect of backgrounds and what he’s trying to do, not only in the on-screen images, but every time he creates a formal portrait. The 90-minute DVD goes by quickly and you’ll find new information every time you view it. For ordering information, contact Joe Photo at (949) 493-4830 or email him at: joe@joephotoweddings.com/. You can also visit his web site: www.joephotoweddings.com/ and go to the “Enter Photographers” section of the Flash site to order online. For a limited time, the price is $195.

Kodak’s Tri-X film is celebrating its 50th birthday. Tri-X has achieved icon status in the photographic industry crossing boundaries of all applications and types of photographers—commercial, nature, fine art, portraiture, editorial, students—and remains Kodak’s largest-selling black-and-white film. Introduced November 1, 1954, as Tri-X roll film—in 135 and 120 sizes—it was considered faster than any other film available, which changed where photographers could take their camera and what they could photograph. Low-light situations and action/motion now could be captured with outstanding results. Originally available in ASA daylight 200 and Tungsten 160 speed, the film was modified once, in 1960. It is now available in 320 and 400-speed and continues to use the same D-76 processing that it used in 1954. Tri-X film has traveled the world with some of the world’s most esteemed photographers—including such luminaries as Sebastiao Salgado, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Mary Ellen Mark, Henri Cartier-Bresson and John Sexton—during the past 50 years.

The software, free to photographers and available as a download at www.kodak.com/proshots/basicsinfo/, allows photographers to more easily select and organize images, proof and complete prints, and submit orders over the Internet or by CD to their lab. It also connects photographers to Pro Labs and makes the image-ordering process easier. The new Proshots Basic is Mac-compatible, making Proshots now accessible to the roughly one third of all professional photographers who use Macs. The new software is compatible with Macintosh OS X 10.2.6 or later.

Olympus has drawn on its expertise in designing high-quality optics for digital imaging to develop the VP-1 Data Projector, the first-ever projector from Olympus. The new 1000-lumen projector weighs just 2.4 pounds and is one of the smallest and lightest projectors of its kind in the world. The VP-1 is scheduled to go on sale in the United States in March 2004. The VP-1 Data Projector has a 1:1.2 Zoom Olympus Zuiko Digital lens to produce more detailed presentations than other projectors with similar brightness. The lens minimizes chromatic aberrations and delivers an image rich in color from center to edge. The high S-XGA (1024x768) resolution eliminates jagged edges, so an audience can easily read the fine print, follow the diagram flow and distinguish spreadsheet details. The VP-1 offers 1000 ANSI lumens of brightness and a contrast ratio of 2000:1, the highest contrast ratio in the industry for a projector this size. Information: www.olympus.com/.
