The Kyocera Finecam SL300R is the world’s thinnest 3X optical zoom digital camera and it virtually eliminates shutter lag time, as well as shooting at an unprecedented 3.5 frames per second. The camera boots in just under 0.7 seconds and features Kyocera’s new RTune Rapid Tuning Technology, which allows you to take a continuous stream of photographs up to the limit of your memory card. MatchLight Software, Inc., creator of the Digital Photography ToolKit for creating realistic composite images, announced a distribution agreement with Adobe Systems, Inc. MatchLight’s Pro and Standard Edition products will be available for purchase through The Adobe Store’s 3rd Party Plug-in section at www.adobe.com/store. MatchLight Software V3.0 is designed to be compatible as an Adobe Photoshop plug-in for both Mac & Windows. MatchLight V3 Standard Edition has a retail price of $199; Pro Edition $499.

The problem with many small digital cameras is their boxy toy camera design. Not so with the classic Leica M3 2.1. Minox has made miniature magic with this Classic Camera. They have fully loaded a replica of the legendary Leica M3, with outstanding digital technology. The classical style of this camera is mechanically precise, with finely machined metal detailing, and we would expect no less of any sporty German import. Panasonic has introduced its powerful, new, up to 2100 mAh nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable battery system, providing a cost-efficient energy source for today’s portable electronic devices. The high-capacity up to 2100 mAh AA Ni-MH batteries last up to three times longer in digital still cameras than standard alkaline batteries and can be charged hundreds of times. Panasonic’s new rechargeable system also features the smallest battery charger on the market, the Quick Charger, capable of charging two 2100 mAh AA Ni-MH batteries in only two hours. Canon’s new low-priced 35mm film and photo scanner, the CanoScan 3200F, allows you to scan slides, negatives and flat art using a high-speed USB 2.0 interface. The scanner is Mac and Windows compatible and is one of the world’s fastest film-capable flatbed scanners, according to Canon. The scanner features a maximum optical resolution of 1200x2400 dpi and an enhanced resolution of 9600dpi. A built-in 35mm film adapter allows users to scan single frame slides or negatives. Book and magazine scanning is made easy with Canon’s exclusive Z-Lid Expansion Top. The Z-Lid Expansion Top automatically lifts vertically and lays flat on the item being scanned. The CanoScan 3200F Color Image Scanner features Canon’s dust and scratch reduction for paper and printed photos and grain and fading correction for film. Flora and Elite albums—long available under various trade names through selected photographic products distributors—are now marketed under a single name, Flora Professional Albums. The new identity will be supported with a new logo, tagline and marketing campaign beginning the first quarter of 2004. Coordinating folios are also offered. Both albums accommodate mat styles from Flora Professional Albums as well as from other similar album systems. Therefore, photographers who have been using other albums may be able to utilize inserts and mats they already own. Nikon (www.nikonusa.com), recently announced development of the D70, a new interchangeable-lens digital SLR camera designed to deliver superb image quality and hallmark Nikon SLR performance at an attractive price. A new DX Zoom-Nikkor lens is being developed concurrently to match the D70, and both products are scheduled to go on sale in the spring of 2004. The new model will offer an exclusive selection of new features and Nikon SLR technology that will surpass products within the evolving digital SLR market, and provide exceptional value at an estimated retail price of $999 for the camera body. Nikon did not release any further data at this writing.

Launching at WPPI 2004 will be The Portrait: Mirror of the Soul, the new book by famed portrait photographers Louise and Joseph Simone. There are 245 images in this exquisite hardcover book. “This work was created to serve as a source of inspiration for those who love photography. We carefully chose the appropriate lighting, composition and design in symbiosis with our subject. It took many years to create… We hope it will stimulate a profound interest for photography,” commented Louise Simone. Mamiya America Corporation has been selected by X-Rite’s Monaco Systems as the master distributor in the U.S. for professional and commercial photo retailers for Monaco’s extensive line of digital imaging color management solutions. Effective September 1, 2003, the new partnership will operate under the name Monaco Photo Marketing, and will be responsible for sales and marketing in the photo market segment. “Mamiya America has an excellent reputation in providing photographers with the tools they need to produce great images,” said George Adam, President of Monaco Systems. “This partnership will provide customers competent and easy access to complete color workflow solutions, from economical to professional level packages.”
