Tamas Revesz of Hungary
Receives $5000 Grant
Tamas Revesz, one of Hungary’s most distinguished photographers
and photo curators is the recipient of the 2003 Howard Chapnick Grant
for the Advancement of Photojournalism. Mr. Revesz, will use the grant
to establish a “Master Class for Photojournalists” for the
Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Slovakia. Twelve photographers
(not more than two from each country) will be invited to take part in
a two-month workshop in their country, to work on an assignment entitled “Choice.” The
Chapnick Grant Program was the idea of photographers Brian Lanker and
Rich Clarkson, and is given in memory of Howard Chapnick who spent 50
years in the Black Star Photo Agency working on the behalf of and in
support of photojournalists. Applications for the next Howard Chapnick

Denis Reggie’s 16-City
Tour Starts Up
Famed photographer Denis Reggie will travel to 16 U.S. cities in
March and April to present one-day seminars that will examine
the state-of-the-art
in digital wedding photojournalism. Up-to-the-minute camera and flash
techniques will be revealed along with the nuts and bolts of his successful
studio operation and digital workflow. The presentation also details
new software, storage, e-commerce, album design, lab services, and
album preferences. This seminar is ideally suited for aspiring
and working
wedding photographers wishing to keep pace with the industry’s
rapidly changing landscape and to enhance operational efficiency and
profitability.
Denis Reggie has been acclaimed “the
great wedding photographer of our day” by Town and Country, “best
of the best” by
Harper’s Bazaar, and “the finest wedding photographer
of his generation” by Photo District News. He has appeared
on “Oprah,” “Entertainment
Tonight,” and on NBC’s “Today” show, and
has covered over 1700 weddings—both large and small—in
his trademark journalistic style.
Participation in the 9 a.m. to
5 p.m. event is $149 per attendee,

Trent Parke of Sidney, Australia,
Receives $30,000 Grant
Trent Parke of Sidney, Australia, has won the $30,000 W. Eugene Smith
Grant in Humanistic Photography for 2003 for his project, “Minutes
to Midnight.” A $5000 Fellowship grant goes to Victor
Sira, of New York City, for his project, “Points of
Entry.” The awards
presented annually by the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund,
are sponsored by Nikon Inc. Helen Marcus, President of the
W. Eugene Smith Fund said, “Trent
Parke shares his enthusiasm and unique vision of Australia,
focusing on a place he loves. It’s exciting to view
the country through his eyes.” Applications for the

Olympus GPS
Olympus America Inc. recently announced the launch of the world’s
first global professional support program for professional
photographers. Olympus Global Professional Services (GPS) began supporting
photographers
this October with the launch of the company’s 100
percent, all-digital interchangeable lens SLR system: the
Olympus E-1 with Zuiko Digital Specific
Lenses. The program will provide comprehensive support
to registered GPS professionals in the United States, Canada,
Europe, Japan and Korea,
with other countries expected to be added in the future.

Phase
One A/S Creates C1 Product Group
Denmark’s Phase One, a leading manufacturer of high-end digital
imaging backs, has announced the formation of its new software division,
the C1 Product Group, effective immediately. All activities related to
Capture One DSLR software products (C1 DSLR) will continue to operate
out of the 10-year-old firm’s Copenhagen headquarters as well as
its North American Sales headquarters based in Northport, NY. Phase One
has moved quickly to accommodate the aggressive growth of its patent-pending

Kodak Names Smith-Pilkington Vice Chairman of Greater Asia Region
Eastman Kodak Company announced the appointment of Karen Smith-Pilkington,
a 23-year veteran of the company, as vice chairman
of the company’s
Greater Asia Region, reporting to Henri Petit, the
region’s chairman.
Both are senior vice presidents of the company. Smith-Pilkington’s
appointment was made effective January 5. She will
relocate to Shanghai.
Foveon Introduces New 10.2 MP
Direct Image Sensor
Foveon Inc., recently announced the immediate availability of the
F7X3-C9110, an enhanced version of the Foveon X3 PRO 10M direct image
sensor. The improved 10.2 megapixel (red + green + blue pixels)
image sensor doubles
the sensitivity and maximum exposure times and
offers
increased dynamic range over its predecessor. The new Foveon
sensor is
used
in the
Sigma SD10 digital SLR. The image sensor allows users
to capture outstanding images at higher shutter speeds ideal for
sports
action as well as
in low light situations requiring long exposures
up to 30
seconds.

$5000 Grant to Teatown

New Operations Manager at Photoflex
Tammy Sanders has been appointed operations manager of Photoflex.
Sander will manage the daily operations of Photoflex,
