Lastolite Has Some Bright Ideas for Location Lighting

How many times have you reached for your reflector and said to yourself, “I wish I’d brought along an assistant.” Lastolite’s Tri-Grip collapsible reflector with a built-in handle is a good fix for those times.

Tri-Grip triangular reflector is convenient and effective for one-handed use.

A revolutionary improvement in collapsible reflectors, the Tri-Grip replaces the traditional round reflector with a triangular design, greatly improving ease of use and convenience, and allowing the photographer to hold the reflector and shoot at the same time!

Tri-Grip’s triangular shape combines the ability to collapse the reflector down and the ability to hold itself rigid. The oversized handle makes it possible for photographers to position the reflector precisely with one hand, so that the photographer can make minute adjustments to the reflector fill while looking through the viewfinder of the tripod-mounted camera.

Tri-Grips measure approximately 33 inches on each side. The two-sided reflectors are available in the following colors: silver/white, gold/white and sunfire/silver. A translucent diffuser version is also available.

The new Jumbo Tri- Grip, measuring 60 inches per side, was designed for applications demanding full body reflection and diffusion. With five different varieties to choose from, including two diffusers, Lastolite’s Jumbo Tri-Grip covers a whole range of lighting needs. The Tri-Grip folds down to a third of its full size and can easily be used without a bracket or a stand, making it the ideal solution for any shoot, on location or in the studio.

The Outdoor Cubelite comes with a removable bottom, so it can be placed directly over the subject e.g. flowers, etc. on location and the back panel can be removed so that the subject can still be kept in its natural environment but sheltered from the elements, providing a diffused light source.

The Cubelite
Also new from Lastolite is the Outdoor Cubelite. Lastolite’s original Cubelite was designed exclusively for product photographers, creating a completely shadowless, non-reflective environment that sets up in seconds.

Continuing in that successful tradition, Lastolite’s Outdoor Cubelite is the ideal solution for product photography shot on location, as well as in the studio. Made from the same materials as the standard Cubelite with the added bonus of weather-resistant steel, this three-foot version has the advantages of a removable base and back, allowing photographers more versatility for shooting. The Outdoor Cubelite can therefore be placed directly over the subject, or with the back removed, the subject can even be photographed in its natural surroundings, with no compromise necessary for lighting or weather conditions.

TThe Ezybox is a portable softbox for location and outdoor shooting. The Ezybox is portable, compact and quick to assemble. Shown is the 2x2-foot Ezybox. Inset—The Ezybox collapses down to a third of its actual size.

The Ezybox
When shooting on location, photographers often find themselves wishing for a portable softbox. Until the recent introduction of the Lastolite Ezybox, softboxes had been relegated to the studio because of their bulkiness and complicated assembly.

The secret of Ezybox is its unique design. Four collapsible Lastolite panels stitched together form a box that pops up in seconds. A diffuser is attached at one end, a speed ring at the other, and that’s it. The Ezybox is now available in three sizes, 18x18 inches, 2x2 feet and 3x3 feet. The Ezybox is lightweight and collapses down to a third of its actual size, making it easy to carry. Ezybox is designed to accommodate lights and strobe heads from most major flash manufacturers.

The Ezybalance is a revolutionary tool for measuring color balance and exposure settings for both digital and film cameras. When folded, it’ll fit in your back pocket (below).

Ezybalance
One of the most critical elements of digital photography is taking the most accurate exposures and establishing the correct white balance for the scene.

The new Ezybalance gives accurate color rendition by providing a pure white surface on one side. The photographer can achieve accurate white balance using the pure white side. The other side of the Ezybalance provides an 18-percent gray card surface. This side is suitable for for taking accurate reflected-light exposure readings.

The Ezybalance folds to just a third of its 12-inch opened round size, making it more convenient than the conventional cardboard and allowing it to fit easily into a small bag or pocket. Suitable for all environments, the Ezybalance is made of a high-quality, wipe-clean surface material, sewn to a sprung steel rim using triple row stitch technology for durability.
