WPPI Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary with Record Number Prints
WPPI’s 25th Annual 16x20 Print Competition was held
at BALLY’s, Las Vegas, on March 19 and 20, 2005. A
record 2300 prints were judged in a two-day period by
four panels of judges.
There are five major categories in the print competition: Wedding
(Bride and Groom Together, Bride or Groom Alone, Bridal
Party, and Engagement); Photojournalism (Non-Wedding Photojournalism,
Wedding Photojournalism, Wedding Details, Wedding
Humor, and Non-Wedding Humor); Portrait (Children, High
School Senior, Individual, Group, and Animals/Pets); Commercial
(Technical/Scientific/Industrial, Illustrative, Editorial/Fashion, and
Fine Art); and Premier (this is an open category for first-time participants
in WPPI 16x20 print competition).
Each sub-category has first, second and third place winners, and
there is a Grand Award winner for each main category. This year
each Grand Award winner received a crystal award along with a
valuable piece of photographic equipment from WPPI sponsors.
The Wedding category Grand Award winner received a Fujifilm
Finepix S3 Pro DSLR with a Tamron lens. The Portrait Grand
Award winner received a Canon EOS 20D DSLR. The Photojournalism
Grand Award winner received a Nikon D2H Pro DSLR. The
Commercial Grand Award winner received an Olympus E-1 Pro
SLR digital camera. And the Premier category Grand Award winner
received a $2000 gift certificate from the MAC Group.
WPPI also held an album competition with four categories: Wedding
(single photographer), Wedding (multiple photographers or
studio submission), Event, Non-wedding (Bar Mitzvahs, parties,
graduations, family reunions), and Non-event, Informal (family
albums, friends—not tied to a specific event but a collection of storytelling
images). The Album Grand Award winner received a Kodak
Professional DCS Pro SLR/n Digital Camera and a Tamron lens.
