WPPI Spotlight

New WPPI Director

WPPI is pleased to announce the appointment of Phillip E. Abel as Director of Wedding and Portrait Photographers International.

Phillip joins WPPI with an extensive background in the photographic industry, most recently as field marketing manager for Fujifilm. His extensive career in the photographic industry includes sales with Fujifilm and Oriental Photo, photofinishing with the Photo Factory in San Diego and 12 years as a professional photographer with the U.S. Navy.

“In his role at Fujifilm, Phillip has been indirectly involved with WPPI for many years. In addition, he has the ideal background in photography, education and marketing to help maintain WPPI’s continued growth,” commented Skip Cohen, president of Rangefinder Publishing.

New Venue, New Dates for ’06 and ’07
We’re pleased to announce our dates for WPPI 2006 and WPPI 2007 conventions together with a new venue.

There’s no question that we’ve been feeling a few growing pains with BALLY’s, Las Vegas. So, we went to work on a terrific solution: We will take over both Paris and BALLY’s Hotels in 2006 and 2007!

The tradeshow will be held in the Paris Hotel Ballrooms, giving us the ability to have over 120,000 square feet of space for exhibitors, as well as our print exhibit. This represents almost 50 percent more space than we currently have. In addition, all of our programs will be held at BALLY’s, utilizing all of the space we currently use for our tradeshow. Our total utilized space for programs will essentially double!

Tradeshow dates for 2006 are April 9–11, 2006, with set up on April 7 and 8. Dates for 2007 are March 25–27 with set up on March 23 and 24.
The Paris Hotel Ballrooms are located on the BALLY’s side of Paris and no farther from BALLY’s front door than our current tradeshow location. We’ve also been able to secure extremely favorable room rates at both BALLY’s and Paris Hotels for both years.

Year after year we know you have a choice regarding those conventions you choose to support. Thanks to your support, WPPI has grown to become the most popular convention in professional photography. We intend to do everything we can to keep the momentum going into future years.

WPPI Members Chosen to Shoot Oprah Wedding
Oprah has underwritten another million-dollar wedding in Los Angeles. Kodak was awarded the photography end of this event and chose WPPI members and speakers at WPPI 2005, Alisha & Brook Todd of Aptos, CA, to be the photographers! Erika Burgin, Alisha’s sister, will be assisting. The wedding will have been broadcast, hopefully, by the end of November or early December on “Oprah.”
