The seminar will feature video presentations from leading photographers. This seminar is meant to help photographers learn about the options and choices in the constantly changing and competitive digital environment. A&I Acquired
With the blessings and support of the original A&I co-founders David Alexander and James Ishihara (“Ish”), A&I has been acquired by Isgo Lepejian Custom Photo Lab.

In David Alexander’s own words, “This move will make A&I stronger in every respect.” The acquisition will afford new and expanded services while keeping the same A&I staff and customer service.

While Isgo Lepejian will be A&I’s parent company, A&I will continue to operate as a separate entity. David Alexander will remain actively involved with A&I as a creative and visionary leader, and Ish, although semi-retired, will also remain involved in the company.

Some of the new and expanded services that will be offered by A&I include more inkjet printing options, four-color offset litho printing, expanded mounting and finishing services, and web and graphic design services.

Xibit, A&I’s black-and-white division, has relocated into A&I’s Hollywood location in order to be more efficiently integrated with the rest of our production and for the convenience of our clients. For more information, visit: www.aandi.com/.

2004 Santa Fe Prize for Photography
The Santa Fe Center for Photography (SFCP) has announced the winner of the 2004 Santa Fe Prize for Photography. Byron Wolfe, a photography educator at California State University, Chico, was selected for his photographic diary, Everyday. (www.byronwolfe.com). The award includes $5000 and participation in Review Santa Fe. Chosen from three finalists, honorable mentions were awarded to Kelli Connell of Youngstown, OH, and Paul D’Amato of Riverside, IL.
The Santa Fe Prize for Photography was initiated in 2003 to recognize and reward a gifted and committed photographer who has completed or is near completing a meaningful body of work. Every day for a year, Wolfe tried to make at least one compelling picture.

Everyday looks at family, place and the passage of time. Inspired by Japanese haiku poetry, the narrative gently unfolds with disarmingly simple words and powerful imagery. The work reveals the invisible moments that make up a life—some remarkably common and others simply extraordinary. “I was compelled to make pictures about things in life that are rarely honored in photographs but should be; I wanted to make visible the poetry of the quotidian,” wrote Wolfe in his artist statement. Wolfe’s artist statement can be viewed online at www.santafecenterfor

Kurt F. G. Jafay, 1918–2004
World-renowned photographer Kurt F. G. Jafay of Denver, CO, and La Jolla, CA, passed away on September 30, 2004. Known for his master portraits of thousands of people—from Miss Americas to President Eisenhower, Vice President Humphrey and other notable politicians and celebrities—Kurt leaves a legacy that will resonate in the photographic industry forever.

Born in Berlin, Germany, in 1918, Kurt came to America at the young age of 20 with only his camera and a trunk. Over the years he further developed his talent and became one of the greatest photographers in the world. Photography was his passion, his hobby, his art and his true love. Every image had a quality, look and feel that only a Jafay photograph could have. He was one of the few in his field who mastered every aspect of photography and could so expertly take an image from film to canvas.

Memorial contributions can be sent to: The Kurt F.G. Jafay Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o XXV Photographers, Attn. Art Wendt, 2175 Colladay Point Dr., Stoughton, WI 53589.
