Aside from this being our annual WPPI wrap-up issue, it is also the first ever landscape
and wildlife issue. Because we have not truly had a forum for such articles, many
of these gems have wandered aimlessly through our editorial calendar. And for that very
reason, we rarely accepted such articles over the transom, as they really had no definitive
home. But now, we finally have a place to proudly present a wide array of the finest nature
and wildlife photography. When a collection of experts in a given field are brought
together to fill a special issue, it is not unusual to see similar behavioral patterns among
them. For instance, it seems that nature photographers’ love for what they do extends
far beyond remuneration. After calculating his lifetime hourly wage, gifted nature photographer
John B. Weller said tongue-in-cheek, “I am pleased to say that it is
positive: $2.50 per hour.” Furthermore, these sure-footed wanderers think nothing of
the superhuman efforts they put forth to conquer seemingly unattainable images.
