Shades of Paper is a retailer with a rallying call. “We like to say, ‘Go Team Shades!’” says the company’s sales and marketing associate Roberta Scott. “We’re a team here and we like to think of our customers as our friends and that we’re truly helping them create masterpieces.”
That team was first formed in 2003 by two siblings, Mary Tandourjian, who had worked in the fine art paper industry, and Jimmy Doyle, a sales professional. Today the company sells supplies to the fine art photography and signage markets, including paper, canvases, printers and inks.
There are photographers and print technicians among its staff of 13, and Scott says their knowledge, combined with the company’s low prices and great customer service, set Shades of Paper apart from its competitors.
“We’re very hands-on, and the people who work here are not just experts, but they use these things,” Scott says. “We have photographers who can discuss what [International Color Consortium] profiles to use for different papers because those are the profiles they use.”
Shades of Paper invites customers to see its printers in action in its showroom, which is housed in a separate facility. Those not close by – the retailer has an international client base – can request to see a sample of how a print would look using a specific paper and printer.
New products from the retailer include IJ Technologies’s Black Diamond AgX Metallic Canvas and a paper, Innova FibaPrint Warm Cotton Gloss. The company will also start selling a new solvent printer from Epson, the SureColor S30670, when it’s available this year.
