There’s a strong photographic tradition at Miller’s Professional Imaging. Photographer Bill Miller founded the company in Pittsburg, Kansas, in 1964, and today a number of staffers also spend time behind the lens, including Chief Executive Officer Richard Miller, Bill’s son, and Vice President Dick Coleman, Richard’s brother-in-law. Both are Master Photographers.
Marketing coordinator Julie Brown says customers benefit from the photography know-how at the lab. “The [staffers] really resonate with photographers because they understand the art and what a photographer is setting out to do,” she says.
Miller’s strives to appeal to professional shooters not only with its quality and products, Brown says, but also its fast turnaround and value-added services that can help speed up workflow, like album design.
The lab has been expanding its press offerings, which it sees as a main area of growth, and in 2011 introduced Signature Letterpress. “It’s a modern spin on the traditional letterpress,” Brown says. “Photographers can upload their images and we will emboss or letterpress a design on the card and print their images with it as well.”
This year Miller’s hopes to extend the letterpress line into other offerings like business cards. It’s also upgrading many of its high-end albums and plans to expand its new line of uniquely shaped Luxe Frames, which are popular with baby and child photographers.
Miller’s, by the way, has two sister labs: MpixPro, which caters to single-studio photographers, and Mpix, a service for emerging professionals and hobbyists.
