The Last Word

This image by Sandra Carr, entitled “Little Angel,” received an honorable mention (Accolade of Excellence) at the WPPI 2004 Print Competition and was displayed at the convention, but was accidentally omitted from WPPI Album 2004. Since it’s such a wonderful image, we thought we’d share it with you. Our apologies to Sandra for not including the image in the Album.
Sandra Carr works as a photographer for Jack Simms’ Studio in Washington, Missouri. To make this portrait of her niece, Taylor, Sandra used a Mamiya RZ 67 with a 180mm Mamiya lens. The diffusion is a result of a Nikon Soft Focus filter. The image was recorded on 400-speed Kodak Portra black-and-white film. Sandra lit the image with two AlienBees strobes in softboxes. The key light was an AlienBees B400 in a large softbox, used slightly above and close to the little girl. The fill light, in a smaller softbox, was a B800 strobe. The fill light was used at the camera position and was housed in a much smaller softbox.
