2004 Pro Photographer’s Awards Announced
by IPC
The International Photographic Council (IPC), a non-governmental organization
of the United Nations, has announced the recipients of its 6th annual
Professional Photographer Leadership Awards. The winners were recognized
at the IPC’s “International Professional Photographer’s
Month” luncheon at the United Nations in New York City on Tuesday,
May 11. Karen A. Smith-Pilkington, chair and president, greater Asia
region, Eastman Kodak Company was the keynote speaker.
The winners are
selected by each of four professional photography organizations, from
among their members: the White House News Photographer’s Association
(WHNPA), the American Society of Magazine Photographers (ASMP), the Professional
Photographers of America (PPA) and the Wedding & Portrait Photographers
International (WPPI).
Dennis Brack, represented by Black Star, received
the IPC WHNPA Leadership Award; Stanley Rowin was awarded the IPC ASMP
Leadership Award; Frank
Cricchio was given the PPA IPC Leadership Award; and Bambi Cantrell was
awarded the IPC WPPI Leadership Award.
In addition, Tony Leonard received
the IPC Lifetime Achievement Award. Leonard has documented the world
of thoroughbred racing for more than
40 years and is recognized around the world as a legendary sports photojournalist.
Chilcote Wins ESOP Company of the Year Award
The Chilcote Company of Cleveland, Ohio, parent company of Taprell Loomis,
was named the 2003 ESOP Company of the Year for the Ohio/Kentucky Chapter
of the ESOP Association, a national association of employee-owned companies.
The award was given at the ESOP Association’s Ohio/Kentucky Chapter
spring conference, March 23, in Columbus, Ohio.
At the same event, Mike
Prokop, Chilcote’s telemarketing sales
coordinator, was named ESOP Employee of the Year. Prokop chairs the company’s
ESOP education committee. The eight-member ESOP education committee works
to foster employee motivation and teamwork.
Kodak Hires Patrick King
Eastman Kodak Company announced that Patrick D. King has been hired as
general manager, Worldwide Consumer Output, within the company’s
Digital & Film Imaging Systems Group. He will report to Bernard Masson,
President of D&FIS and a senior vice president of the company, effective
May 10. King is a former vice president, worldwide product marketing
and strategy, at Lexmark International Inc., one of the world’s
largest makers of inkjet printers.
Free Workshop for Background Projection
Owners
A completely free three-day workshop for any owner of any background
projection system ever produced by any company was announced by Dr. Henry
Oles, chairman of Virtual Backgrounds LLC.
“
Over the years,” said Dr. Oles, “many photographers have
acquired Virtual Background systems but never learned to use them properly.
This is our opportunity to help them to master the process and be successful.
It’s our contribution to the industry.” The workshop is scheduled
for August 16–18, 2004, in San Marcos, TX. Enrollment is limited.
