School Spotlight

Image Explorations
On July 11–15 visit the beautiful private school campus of Shawnigan Lake School, British Columbia, for Image Explorations. The location—about one hour north of Victory, BC, and three hours north of Seattle, WA.—boasts beautiful parks and gardens and is near the ocean.

The tuition for Image Explorations is $565 (Cdb) or about $425 (U.S.). Included in that fee is a resource package for each student provided by each instructor. Lodging and meals cost $285 (Cdb) or about $215 (U.S.). That price includes four nights lodging and all meals.

Each evening will feature a sponsored all-school social activity. At Tuesday night’s “Country Store,” suppliers will be on hand to present their products. Some even plan on offering exclusive specials to Image Explorations students.

Classes include: “The Successful Wedding and Portrait Photographer” with Doug Box, “A Unique Children’s Marketing Concept” with Bobby & Cherry Saint, “100 Ways to Improve Your Portrait Studio and Live Happily Ever After” with Michael Redford, and more.

Digital classes include: “Tips, Tricks & FAQs of Digital Imaging” (Photoshop, level 1) with Brian Lee, “Digital Photography—Shooting for Success” with Craig Minielly, and “Essential Skills of the Digital Workflow” (Photoshop, level 2) with Eddie Tapp.

For more information, contact Don MacGregor at (604) 731-7225 or email: ie@macgregorstudios.com, or visit www.imageexplorations.ca/.

The school will have special evening social events, including a beach party and trade show.
There is a beginning Photoshop class with Scott Condray, an intermediate Photoshop class with Suzette Allen, and an advanced Photoshop class with Jim Divitale.

A variety of classes on wedding and portrait photography will be taught by instructors such as Carlos Lozano, Tim Meyer, Dave Newman, Ken Sklute, Judy Host and others.

Other courses include: “Real Life Photography” with Will Crocket, “Fundamentals of Professional Photography” with Roger Daines, and “Developing a Personal Signature Style” with Arthur Rainville.

For more information visit the web site at www.wcschool.com, or contact Tony Corbell at corbell1@aol.com or (858) 439-5839.

Great Lakes Institute of Photography
The Great Lakes Institute of Photography will be held June 12–18 at Northwood University in Midland, MI.

Tuition for PPA or state organization members is $775, non-members, add $50. Dorm room accomodations and buffet-style meals are covered in this price, unless you want your own room—single rooms are an additional $150.

Scholarships are available through Professional Photographers of Michagan. There are seven different scholarships available, and only three of them require PPM membership.

A barbecue, a late night mixer, and other parties will keep attendees busy during the evenings.

Classes include: “The Principles of Portraiture and the Foundations of Business” with Greg Stangl, “Weddings and Family” with Bruce Hudson, and “Basic Portraiture” with T. Michael Stanley. There are also Photoshop and Painter courses available.

One course, entitled “Great Lake Greats,” lets you spend each day with a different instructor: Mark Bradford specializes in high-end family portraiture, Bob Ashmun specializes in senior portraiture, Michael and Tina Timmons explore technology and fine art photography, and Dennis Craft works in children’s photography.

For more information on the Great Lakes Institute, contact Mark Allen (989) 686-6917 or director@glip.org. For class information, registration forms, and scholarship applications, visit the web site at www.glip.org/.
